Its happening on the 15th of January, April, July and October.
Those are the days for us animals bloggers to let everyone who reads our bloggie about the shelters, rescues, and humane societies that are nearest and dearest to our hearts.
So that's what I'm doing. Sharin.
It's really important to rescue a dog. There are so many homeless doggies (and kitTONS!), that it just doesn't make sense to buy a dog from a BYB. Check out your local 'pets' section on Craigslist...you'll see what I'm talking about. So many peoples giving up their doggies because of so many reasons. Some justified, most not...sadly so many people think of pets as being disposable. Get em while they are puppies & kitTONs, and when it actually takes work and responsibility to raise them, get rid of them. It makes me wanna bite someone, that's for sure.
The local rescue Mom supports is Indian Dane Rescue
Rene, the wonderful man who runs the rescue, is amazing. He brings sad, homeless Danes into his house to live as if they were his. He gives them food, shelter, training and a couch to lie on (sheesh! I don't even get that!). And then he works tirelessly to find the perfect forever home for each of those doggies. And the most special thing about him is that he does it all with his own funding. He doesn't ask for any charity, although he ocassionally receives it from people who have adopted dogs from him in the past.
Do you remember Toby, Oliver & Marley?
All three of those awesome doggies were adopted from Indian Dane Rescue!
While Mom din't rescue me from Indian Dane Rescue...she did rescue me from two very stoopid (yes, stoopid!) people. And, boy am I glad she did!!
So the next time you are thinkin of a doggie...call your local rescue. Most areas will have several purebred rescues where you can help save a life and give a doggie a forever home!

Yay for rescue! If it wasn't for rescue, I wouldn't be with my mom and dad!

Rescue dogs are the best! Happy BTC!
What a fantastic cause! :) Some of us doggies wouldn't get a better life if wonderful people like Rene weren't around!

Excellent Blog the Change post. And you know we are big rescue fans!
Indian Dane Rescue sounds wonderful. Rene... what a giving man to do all this on his own. I'm so glad you're supporting him and his work. The animals are so worth it.
Thanks for Blogging the Change!
