One of the bigger dog shows that Sandy Eggo hosts is this weekend. Mom decided to take me (even though pets aren't allowed!) because she wanted to see how I would react to the show/obedience environment. She wants to start competing sumthin called obedience, and I guess dog shows is where that stuff happens.
At first I have to admit...I was kinda freaked out. So many noises! Dogs barkin, over-head speaker systems cracklin, announcers announcing. It was overwhelming!!
And then I saw this! I am pretty sure those are doggies up there, but so many of them hardly moved a muscle the entire time I was watchin them!
This guy was big! Especially standin way up on that table!
There were lots of different types of doggies there. Most of them seemed to have lazer beams for eyes though, so I stayed far away from dem. Even though there were lots of doggies, Mom kept tellin me to be a good boy and leave them alone. All I wanted to do was to sniff em and say hi!
After about 10 minutes or so, I started gettin used to the noises. The smells were overwhelming though! So much to sniff in!!
We wandered around a bit watching the different doggies compete. There were some really pretty dogs at the show. Fancy Schmancy and all that!
I think Mom said these were Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs. They gotta be cool, cuz they got Great in their name just like ME! Sum of them had their lazer beams on though, so I tried to stay away.
Mom say's this one's a Borzoi. That's a silly name!
There were lots of Golden Retriever Aliens, their lazer beams were on full blast!
Then we got to where the Big dogs were! Check out all my distant relatives!
Most of these guys were a little stuffy and didn't wanna have anything to do with me..but then I met this beautiful gal. I think her name was Eden. Man...I'd eat an apple from her anyday!
Mom knew Eden's human, so I got to play around with her just a little. She was still suppose to go in the show ring though, so I wasn't allowed to get her all riled up or nuthin. She sure was sweet!
After we watched the Danes showing for a little, we decided to walk over to where the club booths were. It was there that I met the biggest Burmese Mountain Dog EVER! This boy was gigantic!! His name was Blitz and we hit it off right away.
He was a gentle giant just like me, and we had a fun time playin for a short bit. Mom was laughin cuz quite a crowd gathered around...all to watch us play! Doesn't that seem a bit silly?
Check out how bitg Blitz's feetsies are! I know I have some big footers, but he takes the cake!
After the play session, we wandered over to obedience. We watched this guy for a little while...boy was he good! Mom kept tellin me to pay attention to him, hopin I would soak up some of his well behavedness.
Finally, on the way out of the show, Mom bought me a special toy for bein such a good boy. A brand new Giraffe with extra long arms and legs! All the better for pullin on!

Dog shows can be really exciting Murphy! I find the noise from all the dog grooming torture blow dryers a bit much myself, but you do get used to it. Glad to see that you were able to meet some nice dogs. We are very jealous of your great giraffe stuffie.
Your friends,
Niamh & Ambrose
Hi Murphy,
That was a great story. I have never seen a Berner that big. WOW!
There were lot's of pretty doggies there but you were the best!
Kisses,
Emma Rose
I really like dog shows. Everyone is so pretty and well behaved. I like your toy -- it's cool!
MURPHY!!!!
My mom/secretary was there on Friday & she's going today too! Do so some research & development for my bloggy...things have gotten a bit stale, so I thought a field trip would be a good idea...get her out of the house!
Love & Licks,
Randi
Geez Wow what a busy place! Sounds like you had fun though
That was an adventure. How were you able to go if doggies weren't allowed? It looks like there were doggies everywhere! That's a lot of butt sniffin' you had to control yourself around.
woof- Tucker
Oh, Murphy, how fun to play with Eden and the other enormous dude. So, what do you thing now that you've seen all that? Are you interested? I think that if you decide to go for it, you'll steal the show, and it's not just because I'm your furiend. I really think so.
Twink!
Wow, so many big dogs! I would have to stay close to my humans all the time in a place like that. Otherwise, I would get lost!
What a great way to spend a day! Loved looking at the pics, felt like i was there lol
OH Murphy - that looks like such an exciting adventure!! I have been to dog shows a couple of times (to do my dancing displays) and I know what you mean about the noise and stuff - you sound like you were REALLY good! (by the way, how on earth did you get in if pet dogs were not allowed?)
That's really good of your human to get you used to things before you have to go into them "for real".
I wonder how those big doggies got up on those tables? Surely their humans couldn't lift them like the smaller doggies??
I agree with you about show dogs being a bit stuck-up, though...although sometimes I think it is their humans, coz they're worried about them getting dirty or excited or something...back in Auckland, I never got to make friends with other Danes much coz they were usually show dogs and their humans didn't like them to play! :-(
How exciting that you're doing Obedience soon! I can't wait to hear more about it! My human is also thinking of trying out Obedience trials with me - so we could share tips! I think it's so great to have more Danes doing dog sports and showing that us giant doggies can do things other than being couch potatoes or beauty queens!
Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane
