Weekend Recap

It was a super fun, super busy weekend. It started off on Saturday, playin with a Mango look alike. This boys name is Duke and he's one of my favoritest dogs to play with. He's a couple of months younger than me, but already out weighs me by about 30 lbs!

Then, on Sunday...I had my very first adventure as a Therapy Dog! I got to join a pack of 4 other dogs and we visted a nursing home Easter morning. One of the other doggies even had bunny ears on! Mom tried to get me to wear some too, but I dint like em at all. For some reason, whenever they were on my head, I couldn't move a muscle!! It was like they were kryptonite or sumthin!

There were 4 other doggies who joined us at the nursing home. Two Golden Retreivers named Duncan and Taylor, a Golden/Brittany mix named Daisy, and a Labradoodle named Bungee.

Daisy was a nice girl. She din't seem to mind the bunny ears at all! Do ya think she might be a playboy bunny in her spare time?

This was my first time visting as a Therapy dog. I think I kinda like it! I got to meet all kinds of really nice people, and got lots of pets!

This one woman really liked me. She was in part of the nursing home that was locked closed because the patients had Alzheimers, or dementia, or some other mental illness that made it unsafe for them to be able to leave. I have to say, every single one of them was super nice...even if they were a little forgetful. One gentleman who was in his 90's (wow, that's a LOT in dog years!) kept forgetting about me until I came up to him again. Each time he saw me again, it was like seeing me for the very first time and he would say "Holy Moly! Thats one BIG dog!". Mom was tryin hard not to giggle, but wasn't doin a very good job. Luckily, I don't think anyone noticed.

After the nursing home visit, we headed over to Balboa Park for my photo shoot. Here are some of the other pictures Mom got of me with the big murals that are painted at the World Beat Center.

I kinda like this one...you can't really see what the murel is, but its a big white cross. I think I'm kinda glowin in the picture!

Phew...after our long day, we headed back to the house for a nice cat nap. Luckily, I had just the cat to nap with!

Murphy, you make the most wonderful therapy dog! You must feel so good, but no where near as happy as you made the nice people feel!

oh Murphy! we loved the video--we love how no other dog could play with you two!!--one of them tried--but then he was like--alright--i'm outta here---hehehe--great job on the therapy and we loved the pic of you napping with the kitty!

Yes! Groucho is filling out and feeling good. you are not the first person to say that, but you are the first on-line person to say it! i think mostly is that he is getting muscle tone for the first time ever. truthfully--i don't think he was ever walked or exercised before--he had very weak muscle tone. now he is really growing into himself!

I love the pictures of you posing with the murals...kind of like the Travelocity gnome. I bet they don't see many therapy dogs like you...

What a wonderful thing to do for the nursing home. I am sure all of you pups made their day.
That other doggie looks like she has here ears on her neck and maybe even on her collar? If the band is on the collar I find they forget about it and will tolerate just fine.
Also I had Moose wear cow ears ALL night at a party and did this with some rewarding ahead of time but also I took the headband and broke it in the middle (without ripping the covering and attached one of those wide headbands for humans that fit really loosely (the kind with rubber non-slip are best) and put that on his head and he acted like he did not know it was there! I would never have left it on that long if he seemed annoyed in the least but we both sort of forgot about it (Moose lets you know when he does not like something too!). Of course you can just not make your doggie do things like that but if you want to that is one way to do it w/o bugging them too much!

On behalf of our hu-dad, thank you. His dad is in one of those locked units. Cheoah, while not a certified therapy dog, has been in the unit twice now and has proven to be a powerful medicine for our hu-granddad. We know how much it means to the residents and their families that people take the time to brighten a day (even if the memory is fleeting).

Thank you.
