Mom & I went to the Great Dane Specialty this weekend. Boy were there some good lookin dogs!
Mom didn't get too many pictures of them though, they all seemed to look the same and there wasn't a real good place to stand to get the pictures with her flashy box.
I hafta say though, I sure am glad I'm not a show doggie. They are super serious and don't ever seem to have any fun!! Even their owners seem a bit uptight.
Along with the show dogs, there were also a bunch of rescue doggies there cuz they were havin a parade!
These doggies were all so much fun! There was a really wide variety of looks and personalities, but for the most part everydoggie was super friendly.
Mom walked me in the parade too! After learning more and more about the young couple she got me from, there is no doubt in her mind that she rescued me from a bad situation. Not that those peoples were ever mean to me, but Mom says they are not the brightest bulbs on the planet. They don't understand the importance of getting a Merle doggie spayed or neutered and most likely if I'd have stayed with them I woulda been a dad by now!! How scary is dat!!
After Mom & I walked in the parade, she got to stay in the middle and take pictures of all of the other doggies.
This old guy was given up by his previous owners cuz he was havin a hard time walkin with his back legs. They didn't want to spend the money to see what was wrong, or help him out in anyway. Now he lives with a super nice family and gets along just fine!
While Mom took pictures, I got to watch from the sidelines. Luckily, Mom's friend let me sit with her...err, I mean ON her, so I was super comfy and think I had the best seat in the house!
Some families were extra special and rescued more than one doggie! Mom wishes she had enough room (and money!!) to be able to do that, but for now I get to rule the roost.
This girl was super cute. Boy oh boy did she have legs that went on forever!
This rescue had even been trained as a service doggie. She was able to support her Mom's weight if she needed to, and was extra well behaved!
One of my bestie friends was there too! Oliver came with his Mom, Dad and the other 2 danes that he lives with. We got to play a little and had a great time!
This guy was the man of the day. His name is Rene and he's the one who runs Indian Dane Rescue. He's personally responsible for placing almost all of the danes that walked in the rescue parade! How cool is that!
This old gal was another rescue. She was a breeders dog at one point and was slated to make some really nice puppies. But when she was placed with her first family, they weren't aware of what it takes to raise a Great Dane and when she nipped one of the kids when she was just 12 weeks old, her former owner picked her up and threw her against a wall. Grrrr...some people SHOULD be bit!! Luckily, the new home she went to was MUCH better and she's had a wonderful life.
After the show, we headed over to Grandmaw & Grandpaw's house for the rest of the weekend. Since it had been a long morning, a little down time was in order.
The rest of the weekend was spent with one of my favorite cousins! She sure was cute, and we became fast friends! She likes to see the world from a different perspective.
Sunday, my Grandmaw threw a big party for my Grandpaw. Sumthin about re-tiring. Does that mean he was tired out before and now he's re-tired? I'm not really sure. Mom said sumthin about him teaching at the same school for 40 years! Can you just imagine how many years that is in dog years!?!
Mom was super proud of me. There were over 40 peoples that came to the party, and I didn't know half of them, but I was really good and friendly and got lots of nice pets. Mom musta taught me well, cuz there were lots of plates left on the tables that had leftover ribs & bbq chicken on them. I remembered what she told me though and didn't take anything!
On the way home, we gots to take Mom's sister and my cousin back to the airport. I've never had a baby sit in the back seat before! She was bein silly and we both kept eachother occupied on the drive to the airport.
After we dropped them off at the airport, I was sooooo tired! I even fell asleep with my head between the seatposts. Mom was laughin at me as she watched in the rear view mirror cuz my eyes were doin funny things, so I finally just gave up and laid down and went to sleep.
Phew...what a weekend!

What a fun filled weekend you had!
The parade looks like it was lots of fun. The story about the doggy who was thrown against a wall for nipping broke my heart and also infuriated me. People can be so stupid.
Looks like it was a Dane + baby weekend for you and Dar!
You must have loved being among so many other Danes. I love how when they were all together, they looked regular size, and you couldn't really tell how huge they are.
WOOOWEEE! That sure was a busy weekend! That parade looked pawsome! I'm so happy to hear that everydoggy there had a happy ending!
Your wittle 2 legger is so funny and oh so cute too!
Wags and woofs,
Mack and Mia
Wow, what a busy weekend! I love all the pictures of the Danes...so many colors and sizes! No wonder you fell asleep on the way home...you must've been exhausted!
My goodness you did have a busy weekend! I am glad those other doggies found good homes too.
I hate it when dogs have bad homes. It is heartbreaking!
Kisses,
Emma Rose
We went to the Siberian Husky specialty last year - for the whole week - and marched in the rescue parade as well. Totally fun to do.
You were very busy Murphy! We loved seeing all those rescued Danes!
