D is for Dremel

uh oh
its time

Mom says my nails are gettin too long

so, out comes the dremel...and the dog treats

Mom tries to do this about once a week. I actually don't mind too much, although it does kinda tickle a little, its MUCH better than the yucky clippers. They put way too much pressure on a big dog's nails and they get dull so fast its hard to keep them sharp enough.

Its nice to have short nails. All the better to sneak up on the kitTON. No clicking on the floors = stealth mode for me!

Heffner used to run away when I would pull out the nail clippers. He's soooooo much happier with the dremel!

Wow your nails are short! Maybe we need to try the dremmel. Darwin isn't a fan of the clippers anymore. As soon as I take them out she backs away.

can I ask which type of dremel you use? Im looking at some on Amazon but there are so many options!

Brooke, this looks like the newer model of the one I have.

http://www.amazon.com/Dremel-750-02-Minimite-4-8-Volt-Two-Speed/dp/B0000302Y1

Ive had mine for over 10 years and it still works great.

it looks like they now also make a pet specific model. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000C6DZ2/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_3?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0000302Y1&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=13H723DZX1HPS9G3CGAD)

The one I have has a rechargable battery. Looks like the pet specific model requires 4 AA batteries.

Dog grooming torture! I am so sorry that you had to endure that Murphy. But your tootsies sure do look nice.

Wow, Murphy - your nails are so short compared to mine! My human always struggles to do mine with the clippers coz my nails are really hard and she always ends up getting a blister...but she hasn't seen any Dremmels here and is not sure how to use them and a bit scared...(sigh)...maybe with the next puppy, she says! :-)

Hi Murphy,

We look a lot alike! It's fun to see another Merlequin. The clippers aren't so bad. The only time I really didn't like getting my nails clipped is when the "professionals" tried to do it. Three big guys at the vets office grabbed me and scared me so much that I got terrified. Now we do it at home every 2 weeks.

HoneyDog, you tell your Mom not to be scared to use the dremel. Its super easy and relatively quiet. Mom even used them on her last dog, a VERY cowardly ridgeback mix who was prone to fear biting. Hannah tolerated them quite nicely as long as Mom didnt try and do all 4 paws in one sitting.

BARK... wow, you should see my nails. They are almost longer than mommy's. Mommy is trying to decide on that drimdrool thingy. She says is will make my paws look nice and pretty. Oh my... BARK! Sasha the Princess

Lucky you. Savage will tolerate the clippers, but went completely nuts when I got a Dremel for him. He literally shakes. I think it's the sound.
The clippers work as well as can be expected for us; doesn't crush the nail if you take off just a little at a time. I do this once a week.
Happily, I gave the Dremel to my parents, whose dog does fine with it, and it has helped them a lot!
