Sheepdogs & snuggles

Mom went to the "Scottish Highland Games" with some friends today. As they were waiting at the local high school for the shuttle...this strangest of strange doggies walked by. Look at da poor sunburn on dat thing! His Mom obviously doesn't know to put suncreen on him like mine does!

Mom went on her own...without me, cuz she said there were "no dogs allowed". But den she comes home with her flashy box full of photos like these. If that's not a doggie...I don't know what is!

Apparently, only border collies from the planet agility were allowed. Sumthin about them bein excellent 'sheep herdin' doggies.

sheesh....I could TOTALLY do this.

it really doesn't look THAT hard...

although those sheep ARE kinda scary lookin.

They should consider themselves lucky that I wasn't able to make it though...I woulda done a lot more than put those sheepies in a pen!

While Mom was watchin the sheepdog trials, a pretty hawk was gettin herded in the air by a lil mockingbird.

I really dont understand humans sometimes though. There were gals and guys playin silly games.

Throwin big stones....

And check out this huge stick! I totally coulda fetched that!!

When Mom got home, she gave me some extra special time with the new kitTON. Poor lil thang, she still doesn't have a name...so I had'ta cuddle with her a lil so she wouldn't feel bad.

she sure is sweet!! I really really like her and think she's gonna fit in pretty well around here.

Even Fergie is slowly startin to come around!

Invasion of the....

KitTONSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

Mom had to take Fergalicious to the Betterinarian on Wednesday for her last set of shots.

And when she came back, she had some news to share with me.

And den yesterday....

This comes home with her....

Yes, another sister for me!

She's 10 weeks old and was part of a feral litter that a good samaritan caught and then fostered until they were old enough for families.

There were 10 of these critters at the betterinarian...fortunately, Mom's head was screwed on halfway tight cuz she only brought home 1 of them.

She doesn't have a name just yet. She thinks I'm kinda cool though and does this funny kneeding & purring thing on my back that I kinda like.

Poor Fergie's a bit pissed though. She's no longer the 'baby' of the house and is letting everyone know she's not happy about it!

For now...she's just being called "kitTON" (said with a french accent of course!). We'll let you know when she finally gets a name!

Farewell Montana

The Leash Your Fitness family lost a beautiful member today. Montana was a handsome 12 year old Lab who graced our group with his presence. He was diagnosed with lymphoma several weeks ago and had been steadily declining..this morning he was unable to get up and walk and his Mom just knew it was time.

He was a quiet, peaceful soul and will be greatly missed. He was the patriarch of our little group, and while he didn't always participate in the workouts...he never missed out on supervising them.
Dawn, from Leash Your Fitness, presented Montana's Mom with a beautiful sketch to help her remember Montana. Everyone's eyes were leaking when she opened it.

There was a big turneout for class this morning as every person, and every dog couldn't miss the chance to say 'goodbye'. He was diagnosed with lymphoma several weeks ago, and it was time...his human was so brave to say goodbye.

All us doggies got together for a group shot with Montana...

Montana got lots of kisses...I think we all knew we were saying 'goodbye'

RIP Montana

My 200th post, dedicated to my alien sister, Fergie

I am dedicating my 200th post to my alien sister Fergie.

Earlier this week, Mom took her in to get fixed. Its nice to finally be listened to...I've been tellin her she was broke for weeks now. You can see where they shaved her belly...and if you look closely, you'll see a little incision on her belly...I think that's where she plugs in for her re-charging.

Fergie came thru her fixin with flyin colors though, and even though both of us were hoping, it hasn't slowed her down one bit.

Its hard for Mom to get any pictures of her...we don't think she actually knows how to walk cuz all she does is run everywhere and jump on everything.

When she finally sat still for a moment today, Mom was able to get photographic proof that Fergie is an alien KitTON. Check out her double fangs!! No wonder she's always makin me cry!!

Both Mom and I are hopin she learns some more manners with those teefers. They are super sharp, and boy does she like to bite!

Here's a few more 'angelic' pictures...but don't let her fool ya. She's a crazy insane cracker kitTON! Check out her crazy ear hair!!

TYDTWD!!!

Its almost here!

Next Friday is "Take your dog to work" day!! That means your human still has some time to make plans to take you to work with them!

Can you believe it? They have an official day where we, our humans most favorite canines, get to go to work with our most favorite humans!

Well, at least those of us who do not have people in their office who are deathly allergic to doggies.

Oh well. While I might not be able to go to work with Mom (which I'm actually secretly glad about since her work sounds boring with a capital B!), hopefully some of you doggies get to go with your peoples!

Here's some good tips for your humans so its a fun time for everyone! (courtesy of the TYDTW website)

When you show up with your dog at the office on Take Your Dog to Work Day, make sure he is prepared to meet several new people and possibly other dogs.

He or she should have lots of practice with polite greetings before the big day so that he knows what your expectations are.

  • When your dog is greeting new people, have him sit politely until released for greetings. Not everyone in your office will want to meet him, and those who do will be especially pleased with his manners.
  • A cute trick never hurts. Teach your dog to shake hands with people that he meets by holding your fist up to his nose. When he lifts his paw, even a little, praise him and give him a treat. Practice this until he can give up his paw on command. Then have him practice with different people so he is an expert.
  • When greeting new dogs in the office, your dog should also be able to sit politely until asked. Ask permission before you allow your dog to greet another dog, in case that dog isn’t as friendly. You don’t want to cause an office squabble!
  • Keep dog-dog interactions short or break them up periodically by calling your dog back to your side to calm down. Even friendly dogs can escalate if their playing styles don’t match so allow your dog a break and reward him for listening.
  • Remember to always keep a loose-leash when allowing your dog to greet. If you are pulling tightly on the leash, your dog may think you’re nervous, which may cause him to growl or snap. Allow the dogs to greet in their own time. Don’t push them into a greeting or prevent normal interactions, such as rear sniffing. Even though your dog may be in your office, dogs will still be dogs!

K9's & Cocktails

Monday night, Mom took me to a function called "K9's & Cocktails". It was the first yappy hour that Station Tavern put on, with the help of their friends at South Bark Dog Wash.

The San Diego Great Dane Meetup Group really represented that night. In total there were about 8 danes that came out for the yappy hour!

It was a fun evening, but a little stressy for Mom. Unfortunately, most of the doggies were being let off leash. The patio area was relatively big, but with all the tables & chairs there really wasn't a lot of room for all of us doggies to be running around off leash. Fortunately most of the doggies were well behaved and there were only one or two scuffles that broke out.

Wilson had the best seat in the house!

I gots to meet a cute lil Frenchie pup. Boy was she sweet!

This girl was the most senior of the group at 8 years old. She was such a pretty blue brindle!

Maggie & Duke took advantage of the free dog treats that were being handed out.

Mom was mean and kept me on my leash the whole time, so I could only watch as the other doggies stood beggin for some foodables.

I sure hope Mom doesn't get any funny ideas from this lil guy!

Even though it was a lil chaotic with all the doggies running around, it was still a fun time! I always like seeing my Great Dane friends, and making new ones!
