This being my 2nd Halloween here on this earth, I've determined that is nothing but an occasion to humiliate us doggies. Fortunately, me being more ginormous than the average doggie, there aren't many store bought costumes that fit me. That means I participate more an an onlooker, and try to keep the snickers & giggles to myself.
Wilson won for most scariest costume!
Bentley & Cleo came as Fred & Wilma Flinstone
Fred decided to take on the headless horseman...
I din't stick around to see who won, it seemed like it was gonna get gorey
only 10 more weeks to go in the 52 Weeks for Dogs project Mom signed me up for.
I think she's gettin desperate for different photos of me...tonight she made me balance on the teeniest of stools! Can somedoggy please call the doggie protective services? This is torture!
woah...it seems like it was just July 15th when Mom & I participated in our 1st Blog the Change for animals. Now all of a sudden, here it is again! Time is sure flyin by!
In July, I posted about one of my most favoritest rescues here in Sandy Eggo. One that is near and dear to my heart...Indian Dane Rescue.
Today, I wanna tell you about a super duper special gal named Ricochet. Surfdog Ricochet to be exact.
You see, Surfdog Ricochet is a puppy prodigy. Slated to be a service dog from the minute she was born. Actually, prolly even earlier than that!! I bet her Mom was bred with the intention of having the pups grow up into service doggies.
Ricochet is super duper smart (and beautiful!). Right away, even as a young pup, she showed great potential. Learning all the tricks and tasks you needed to complete to help out a human in need. She loved loved loved learning all this stuff, but unfortunately, Ricki also learned that she liked chasing birds. She had a really high prey drive...and that could be dangerous to the human she was helping, especially if a bird caught her attention when she was suppose to be doin somethin important!
For a while, her Mom tried hard to shape her into the service dog she was meant to be...it was a constant struggle, cuz those birds were way cool. One day, her mom finally realized something. Ricki needed to be allowed to be Ricki, and not forced into something that just wasn't her style. On that day, Ricki started to blossum. Since she loves the water (almost as much as birds!!), she became Surfdog Ricochet...a SURFice dog!
Now, Ricki helps to do some fundraising for those in need. She is amazing and has helped raise thousands of dollars over the years!! In this sense, she still gets to help people with disabilities...just in a less traditional way! Her fundraising efforts have also been really valuable in helping human/animal causes.
Ricki has gotten lots of national attention. In part because of this inspirational video about her that went viral on YouTube. I'm warning you now...get da tissues ready for yer human cuz it almost always induces leaky eyes.
I got lucky enough to meet Ricki at one of the practices for the Surfdog competition back in September. I gotta tell ya...if you think she's beautiful in her picture above, just wait til you meet her in person. WOWZA!
So, now...Ricki is Surfin' for Paws-abilities. The amounts of money she has raised for different causes is amazing. She surfs with people who have disabilities...walks in cancer walks...and most of all is just an incredible example to all of us to just accept each other the way we are, and great things will happen.
I think I need to put an ad in the paper for a new secretary..Mom is totally slackin again!
Finally got her to send out this update though. She's walking a fine line, and has been put on notice. Hopefully this lag in blogging won't become a regular occurance!
What a fun weekend we had! Me & Walter got along great the entire time...it was almost gonna be a 24/7 bitey face tournament, but Mom quickly put the brakes on that idea.
So, instead...we just hung out, like the gentle-dogs that we are.
I was super nice and let Walter play with some of my favorite toys. Phoebe made sure he din't chew em up...only I'm allowed to do that.
Saturday afternoon, we got to go to Chipper's 8th barkday pawty! It was a lot of fun! Chipper lived at a place that was covered in fake grass...it was nice and green, but plastic! Can you imagine?
Cleo, who lives with Chipper, got to hang out on the chair so none of us bigger dogs would step on her.
Cleo & Bear got some extra lovin from Dawn....boy it must be nice to fit in a lap like that!
Walter and I hung out next to Jack while he chewed on a rawhide...we were hopin he would share, but no such luck!
We did get to share in the barkday cake though!
First, Chipper's Mom had to make sure we all knew what the rules were. No fighting over cake!
Walter & I waited patiently for our pieces.
then Jack's Mom made him wear the barkday hat. I'm glad that wasn't me!
by the time we got home it was late and both Walter & I were exhausted! I am pretty sure we both slept til Sunday afternoon! What a great weekend!
This year, cancer is projected to become the leading cause of death worldwide. LIVESTRONG Day is an opportunity for people from all walks of life to work toward the common goal of ensuring that the 28 million cancer survivors around the world have the information, resources and support they need to live with strength and dignity.
There are 28 million people living with cancer around the world and in 2010, cancer will become the leading cause of death worldwide.
Cancer affects everyone. Each year more than 12 million people worldwide are diagnosed with cancer, and eight million people will die from the disease.
Today is a day to celebrate with those who have beat cancer...
Today is a day for us to remember all of those we have lost to cancer...
Sophie KitTON (Lymphoma)
Bristol & Tyler (Osteosarcoma)
This is the day we vow to become involved...to donate that small amount of money...to walk in our local cancer walks. Small strides against this disease are being made every day with our help, so remember...Livestrong!
