Blog The Change

Blog the Change

Its happening on the 15th of January, April, July and October.

Those are the days for us animals bloggers to let everyone who reads our bloggie about the shelters, rescues, and humane societies that are nearest and dearest to our hearts.

So that's what I'm doing. Sharin.

It's really important to rescue a dog. There are so many homeless doggies (and kitTONS!), that it just doesn't make sense to buy a dog from a BYB. Check out your local 'pets' section on Craigslist...you'll see what I'm talking about. So many peoples giving up their doggies because of so many reasons. Some justified, most not...sadly so many people think of pets as being disposable. Get em while they are puppies & kitTONs, and when it actually takes work and responsibility to raise them, get rid of them. It makes me wanna bite someone, that's for sure.

The local rescue Mom supports is Indian Dane Rescue

Rene, the wonderful man who runs the rescue, is amazing. He brings sad, homeless Danes into his house to live as if they were his. He gives them food, shelter, training and a couch to lie on (sheesh! I don't even get that!). And then he works tirelessly to find the perfect forever home for each of those doggies. And the most special thing about him is that he does it all with his own funding. He doesn't ask for any charity, although he ocassionally receives it from people who have adopted dogs from him in the past.

Do you remember Toby, Oliver & Marley?
All three of those awesome doggies were adopted from Indian Dane Rescue!

While Mom din't rescue me from Indian Dane Rescue...she did rescue me from two very stoopid (yes, stoopid!) people. And, boy am I glad she did!!

So the next time you are thinkin of a doggie...call your local rescue. Most areas will have several purebred rescues where you can help save a life and give a doggie a forever home!

52 Weeks of Murphy - 24/52

Surrounded by love...

Oops! Mom just realized she never posted this one. Bad Mom, Bad Mom!

Anyone interested in a job as my secretary?

Mission Trails Regional Park

Finally...sumthing to blog about! Me & Mom have been busy goin to dog park, but figured you wouldn't want to hear about that day in and day out.

Tonight we finally did sumthing different. Mom took me over to Mission Trails Regional Park for a long hike. Boy was it fun!

Mission Trails has been around forever. Its a big open space preserve (almost 5800 acres!) with lots of trails for hiking, mountain biking & horseback riding. The best part about it is that its only about 10 minutes from our house...a nice quick drive and all of a sudden I feel like I'm 10,000 miles away from the hustle & bustle of suburban life.

We hiked along a trail and ended up at the dam. Its super duper old! This big rock says it was built between 1813 & 1816....dats like forever ago!

The dam is built on the Sandy Eggo River, which runs 52 miles thru our county. The river starts way out in the mountains, and eventually drains into the ocean at Dog Beach in Ocean Beach. The area near the dam is very lush and green. Everything obviously loves having access to all that water! The surrounding park is super dry...covered in tall grasses and chaparral.

The only bad thing about this place is I have to stay on my leash. Dogs aren't allowed to run around loose, cuz there's lots of stuff for us to get into. There are foxtails galore along most of the main trails, plus its the perfect habitat for rattlesnakes! There's also lots of critters that would be fun to chase...birds, deer, rabbits & coyotes. There are even super duper big cats that live here! Mom says they are called Mountain Lions...she says its pretty rare to spot them...especially on the main trails in the park, but every once in a while one will come down from the hills and make an appearance.

So, for the most part, I stayed on my leash. Mom took it off every once in a while for a photo shoot...but it was never long enough for me to do any running around.

It was still a fun afternoon...I saw lizards, and bunnies galore! I KNOW I coulda caught one or two of them!

Come on Mom! Can't I go in for a quick dip?!? Just a lil one, I promise!
