Bitey Face Marathon

Dhani came to visit this weekend while her Mom was on a little road trip to see her family. She's such a fun cousin!

Phoebe KitTON took an immediate liking to her. They liked to pay thru the bars of Dhani's crate.

Most of the weekend was spent like this...

Whew! Am I pooped! I am pretty sure we set a world record for the most bitey face played in a 48 hour time period. I don't think Mom was impressed.

When we got home, Mom opened up her iPad to kill some time. Fergie came over and decided she'd try her paw at TapFish HD.

Hey wait! That looks kind fun! I bet I could do that!

Move over flea bag...let the master show you how its done!

don't worry Mom...its just slobber! It won't hurt your iPad!

Rattlesnake Avoidance Training

Since we do our fair share of hiking here in Sandy Eggo, Mom is super concerned about the dangers of rattlesnakes. In order to keep me safe, Mom decided last year to put me through Rattlesnake Avoidance Training. This year I did a refresher course. Boy oh boy, did I remember those snakes!

Check out the video Mom shot during the training.

Note from Mom:
Both last year and this year, I was torn about using a shock collar on Murphy. I have very mixed feelings about shock collars. On one hand, I have seen a number of very well adjusted dogs who have been trained beautifully with them...on the other had, I have read stories about the trauma they can do to a dog. Not necessary physical, but emotionally.

After much internal debate last year, and after seeing Murphy pick a California King snake up in his mouth (fortunately a harmless snake, and neither Murphy nor the snake were injured), I decided the risk of using an experienced professional in doing this sort of training was worth the benefit of having a dog that was aware of the dangers a snake could pose.

A fellow blogger over at Champion of My Heart had a really well written blog post just on this subject. I do wish I had read it before taking Murphy through the training, at least to have had another option to shock collar training. However, Murphy seems to have had no ill lasting effects from the training and I believe that is because he is a pretty well balanced, confident dog. If he were shy or timid, or even sensitive to corrections of any type I would not have taken him through this training.

Erick at Natural Solutions K9 Rattlesnake Avoidance (the company who provided this training) does recommend taking a dog through 3 consecutive years of Rattlesnake Aversion Training, however now that I have the additional information provided by Champion of My Heart, I plan on contacting Jamie Bozzi at SMRTDOG here in San Diego before any type of training next year.

Product Review - Karlie Bugs Kloset

Back in February, Me & Mom went to the Silver Bay Kennel Club dog show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. While we were there, Mom saw a booth full of beeeeeauuuutiful beaded collars. The company is called Karlie Bugs Kloset and they make some fabulous things!

All the collars are hand made, and there are fifty seven eleventy million designs to choose from.

Mom liked the diamond pattern, but if you haven't noticed...I'm kinda extra large in size so she likes to get collars that are 1.5" in width. She talked to Becky about the collar and after they measured my neck she placed the order.

Within a week, the collar had arrived. It was gorgeous, but Mom noticed a few problems. First...it was only 1" wide. Because of the design Mom had chosen, Becky couldn't make it work in the 1.5" collar. Also, believe it or not...the collar was too big for me! It hung very low on my neck and wasn't really what Mom had in mind. Boy is she picky!! I thought I looked pretty handsome!

So, Mom emailed Becky and let her know her concerns...not really expecting too much since it WAS the design she picked, and they DID measure my neck all together. Its not like anyone at Karlie Bugs Kloset made any mistakes.

Becky was fabulous though. She told Mom immediately to go to their website and pick out a couple of designs that she liked. Becky would remake the collar in one of those designs that worked as a 1.5" width, as well as make the collar a little smaller so it didn't fall so far down on my neck.

Mom sent the original collar back, and within a couple of days the new collar arrived! It even had extra sparkly beads! Mom was super happy with this one. It fit me perfectly, and the width really looks great.

New 1.5" collar!

so...if you are headin out for a night on the town and need an extra special collar for the occasion, go check out Karlie Bugs Kloset. They have collars & leashes and other fun stuff (like foodables!) for us K9s. Becky will take extra special care of you too!

pee SSS. Mom wants you to know that she is in no way affiliated with Karlie Bugs Kloset. This collar was purchased with her own personal green paper monies, and she wasn't even asked to do this review. But because of the amazing customer service and beautiful collar, she just felt she had to share it with you!

Lake Hodges Hike

It was a gloomy, overcast morning in Sandy Eggo. Perfect weather for a hike!

Me & and few friends headed out to hike at Lake Hodges. Its a beautiful area, and right now because of the rain, the lake is super high! Normally, you can see a 10-12 foot water line surrounding the lake, right now though its so high its over flowing at the damn!

Everything is so green and pretty...it felt like we were hiking in a tropical forest!

This abandoned house has a tree leaning against it!

When we arrived at the top of the damn, there were two stupid humans in kayaks right at the damns edge.

Apparently, they felt the need to test their skills. Thankfully, they didn't go over the edge, cuz it was quite a drop on the other side!

the river below the damn was filled with Snowy Egrets. They were everywhere!

I had so much fun hiking with my favorite girls! Poppy (Standard Schnauzer), Ginger (Pit Bull Terrier), and Dhani (All American Dog).

Dhani had a great time!

After a while, the sun started to peak through. I was getting a bit hot with my pack on, so Mom was nice enough to take it off and let me hike naked.

later in the hike, a 9 year old Dane named Falcor joined us. She looked amazing for 9 years old!

What a great way to start off the weekend! Now, I think I'll go take a nap.

Guess What I'm doing this morning!
